Spring is here, the perfect time to clean up around the house, throw out excess waste, and dial-in your home appliances and electronic devices. Warmer weather will soon be upon us. With a little fine-tuning of your HVAC system, you’ll be able to minimize energy consumption and maximize savings. Here are a few of DBM Solar’s favorite energy saving tips. Service your air conditioner It’s important to check your air conditioner’s air filters. Clean filters in an HVAC system promote efficient airflow, which can reduce energy consumption by as much as 10-20%. Set the thermostat accordingly Now that your air conditioner is serviced to perform at its best, bump up the thermostat 2 or 3 degrees. While a degree or two won’t make you miserable, it will help reduce energy costs by as much as 10 percent. Seal cooling and ventilation ducts What good is cool air from your air conditioner if much of it goes to waste? Air loss can account for as much as 30% of a cooling system’s energy consumption. Efficient, sealed ducting can significantly lower electricity bills and maximize comfort in your home. Throw a shrimp on the barbie Warm weather is the perfect time to grill. Whatever your favorite bbq recipe or item to grill may be, shrimp or otherwise, grilling has a few benefits to energy consumption. First, grilling often uses less energy, which can save you a few buck. Second, cooking outdoors keeps the heat outdoors. You can avoid having to crank up the AC on steak night by cooking outdoors instead of in the kitchen. Tint or dress up your home’s... read more

There are various reasons environmentalists and society, in general, are pushing for communities to go green. increased population increased consumption and waste global warming increased natural disasters decreasing natural resources Our home, Earth, can only take so much. There are several way to contribute to conserving Earth’s resources. A form of energy production and preservation that we’re quite fond of is solar power. From 2000 to 2006, electricity prices went up 2.5% annually. This trend continues to rise, following the rising cost of fuels like coal and natural gas. Not only is solar technology cleaner but it is a great hedge against rising electricity costs. Homeowners that consider installing solar panels not only take advantage of the free energy the sun gives, they may also qualify for financial support. The Federal government encourages homeowners to take advantage of tax incentives that they can get when installing solar technology. Not only will homeowners save money on electricity bills but they could also get an immediate tax benefit. Homeowners can currently qualify for a solar power tax credit of 30% through December of 2016. Sunny states such as Arizona, California, or New Mexico may also qualify for additional incentives. These areas may qualify for additional incentives that are given through cash back, waived fees, or expedited permits. Solar Panels: Cost and Savings Solar panels will be able to give you all the energy you need without the potential of increased electricity costs in the future. An average household consumes around 1 kW per hour of electricity that translates to 900 kWh per month. Multiply that with the cost per kilowatt in... read more

New Year is a great opportunity for reflection. Each year, New Year reminds us to reflect on how we treat ourselves, the people around us, and our environment. At DBM Solar, we’re big advocates of the three R’s; reduce, reuse, and recycle. The simple practice of reduce, reuse, recycle minimizes waste to prevent further destruction of our natural resources. While most of us acknowledge the benefits of protecting Earth, for others it can be an eye opener to know the impact of one small action of littering or waste. For example, did you know that it can take at least 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose? Some bottles can take as much as 1,000 years. Let’s work together in helping preserve the Earth. The key is in starting small. Small acts give way to big impact. We can do this by following the three R’s. Reduce Minimize how often you buy or find alternatives to what you buy to ensure that they are recyclable. Reuse Before you throw out that box, can you reuse it for storage? Can you turn those old bottles into unique planters? Find ways to reuse items before you throw them it. It protects the environment and could save you some big bucks. Recycle When you do have to buy, try buying products that are packaged using recyclable material. Before disposing of anything, think about where it will end up. Is it something you buy on a daily basis? If so, multiply that waste by 360 days. Imagine the impact that one person can make in a year by using the three R’s.... read more
